Bedales Climbing Activity

One of the many weekly activities run for students at Bedales is a climbing activity at Alton Leisure Centre led by Head of Geography, Kirsty Layton. Two different groups go to Alton on Thursdays, the first of which is an instructor led rope session. Students learn key skills for climbing, from belaying and smearing to dyno moves on to crimp style handholds, and as a way of wind down (and a bit of healthy competition), students dive onto the bouldering wall to test their skills and challenge each other to difficult routes.

The second group are more experienced climbers, including Block 4 student Adam Osborne who is an active participant in bouldering competitions in and around Hampshire. The students spend two hours working out how to tackle various routes and now regularly work with local climbers at the wall...a really successful activity and games session this year, and one which student demand will continue to drive forward!
