This week a term long process has culminated in three visually outstanding and skillfully executed performances in the theatre. Caucasian Chalk Circle was professionally directed by Margaret Bain, the Director in Residence for this autumn term, aided by Joanne Greenwood and four student assistant directors. Coming from industry work, Maggie had her work cut out for her in the cast of 40 of us, the youngest of which was just 14. In typical Brechtian style, there were rapid on stage costume changes and multiple roles for each actor. With a limping lover, a drunken judge, farcical fat princes and two mothers pulling apart a puppet, the whole school play once again managed to be an immersive and enthralling piece of theatre.
