Design Blog entry two

I have decided to design a collection which includes a wide range of garments i.e. a coat, two short dresses, a jacket and a skirt and a full length dress...I came up with the designs by looking at my mood board and taking inspiration from key images on it...I also created sihouettes by laying shapes and patterns down on the template and developing them to become garments. Since then i have begun making toiles and researching into fabric possibilities...i have decided to keep the pallet simple, using mainly blacks, grays and creams...with the occasional addition of colour in some places...

I decided to keep the colours mute to emulate the modern, simplistic way in which colour was used in the Art Deco period. I also decided to make one of my short dresses from the set of final designs...i feel that it has the most interesting silhouette and i like the application of streamlines on the bodice...

I have been toiling the final design and so far i have nearly finished the final toile for the bodice...the measurements have been quite tricky to maintain when changing small details on the pattern pieces..but it's coming together. I plan to finish the final toile in the next three or four weeks..so that i can start to make the real garment.. In the mean time i can gather together the fabrics i will use...

I plan to also incorporate a parachute (which was donated to the design department and Louise said i could use) into the design as maybe an alternative to the skirt...as the parachute also emulates speed and transport... Because it has yards and yards of fabric i could play with volume by bunching the fabric and maybe having tulle underneath...
