The story of Dionysus’s journey to the underworld, directed by Head of Classics, Alex Walker, offers great scope for laughter. The play poses a challenge to update old jokes! However this production of The Frogs, adapted by Katy Walker, showed how contemporary the issues from this classical play can be. 33 intrepid Block 3s & 4s worked all term to perform a show that was both slick and great fun. As soon as the chanting frogs emerged from the woods and pond the audience could sense that this would be an entertaining and energetic performance! Central to the whole play was Dionysus and his secretary Xanthias, impressively portrayed by Josh Mazas and Martha Harlan, ably supported by a long line of splendid performances from others, most importantly the chorus of frogs. The audience, whether in pouring rain or sun, had a wonderful time and the show demonstrated that Classics is alive and kicking at Bedales.
