To fully understand Bedales, you need to understand something of the school's history and evolution.
Bedales was founded by J H Badley in 1893 to be a humane alternative to the authoritarian regimes typical of late-Victorian public schools. Our founder believed that involving "head, hand and heart" was the key to growth and development. Badley's philosophy is still the corner stone around which our innovative education system is built.
This section focuses on the first 70 years of the school's life. More recent history will be added as the section develops. As part of this development, we welcome contributions from people with recollections of the school and who would like to add richness to the current content. Please send contributions to the Web Editor.
