What makes a good teacher at Dunhurst?
"Someone who empowers pupils to use and extend their own skills in a happy and supportive environment and to carry on the enjoyment of learning."

What are you trying to encourage and instil in your pupils?
"An individual passion and excitement for all genres of music so that pupils want to continue to explore, create and improve throughout their lives."

Apart from your teaching role, what else do you get involved with at the school?
"I am a Block II tutor which means looking after the pastoral needs of seven or eight pupils for the academic year. We have tutor parties such as Ice Skating – we go to Winchester just before the end of the Christmas term and experience the Christmas markets and the open air skating rink in the dark. All staff at Dunhurst run activities for both Groups and Blocks – and I have run activities such as Country Walks and Researching Your Family Tree. This is in addition to the huge range of musical extra-curricular activities that we run each week including song writing, choirs, jazz bands, orchestras, African drumming, musical theatre, string quartets, guitar groups, rock bands and more! The whole of Dunhurst also goes on camp in the Summer term and I have been to France with Block II recently for a whole range of outdoor pursuits and activities."

In your opinion, what makes Dunhurst special?
"The rapport between staff and pupils, the real sense of community and the truly creative environment."

What is your best memory of Bedales/Dunhurst?
"Not sure I can think of one – every day has a highlight and something you want to cherish."

Who or what inspires you?
"People inspire me every day – whether it be an external speaker giving a talk, the vision of one of my colleagues or the creative talent of a pupil."

Tell us something not a lot of people know about you.
"I am an Old Bedalian."
