Bedales Football Success inspired by Villarreal FC Tour

26/09/2011

A football pre-season tour to Villarreal in August proved excellent preparation for the Bedales first X1 football team players when they beat Colfe’s school 1-0 away in the first round of the ISFA U18 Boodles Cup. Head of Boys’ Sport, Alan Wright and the team were delighted to have made a strong start to the championship. Read the ISFA match report.

During the week’s tour to Villarreal FC, the 15 students received eight training sessions from the Villarreal coaches and played in two matches against local Spanish opposition. They also had a behind-the-scenes tour of the Madrigal Stadium as well as getting the opportunity to watch Villarreal v Odense in a Champions League match. In their downtime, the group had the opportunity to use the excellent swimming pool and facilities at the four star Intur Orange Hotel, visit the local beach, play mini-golf and go to the local aqua-park. The tour was a fantastic experience for all the players and staff and the next tour is already being considered for 2013.

In other results, the Bedales U15 boys’ football team continued their impressive start to the season with a 4-3 win against Mayville. This year is the first season that Bedales has brought in external coaches from Portsmouth FC to help with the training of both junior and senior teams.

In girls’ hockey, the U15 team won 6-0 against Meoncross captained by Ellie Catton, the U14 girls’ team drew 0-0 against Meoncross and the 2nd girls’ hockey team drew 1-1 against Portsmouth High.
