Bedales U14 Netball Tournament Success

The first match we played was against Bayhouse. We managed to settle into a good pattern very early on in the game, which gave us a substantial lead for the first half. Lily Wetherill linked the passes from the defence to the attack very smoothly and Ellie Catton scored some brilliant goals. The final score was ten goals to Bedales and just three to Bayhouse.

The second team we were up against was Romsey. Their defence was very good and they were very slick at linking their passes. At half time, we were down 4-2, so after a firm half-time talk from Helen we went out strong. Chloe Green and Vita Paxman didn’t let anything get past them and stopped them scoring any more goals. Maya Wilson brought every ball they defended up to the shooters. Ellie Catton and Phoebe Landers managed to score 3 more goals, with the last one being scored in the last second. The final score was 5-4 to Bedales.

We then went on to play King Edwards. Unfortunately we lost our rhythm a bit in this game and although we managed to pull out a few goals we struggled to find the passes. The score at the end of this game was 10-3 to King Edwards.

Our last match in the first round was against St Nicholas. We went out hard from the beginning to redeem ourselves from the last match. We worked together really well and Chloe, Vita and Maya kept the ball from getting into the opposing third and Emily Blackley and Lily Wetherill brought the ball into Phoebe and Ellie in the circle. We managed to keep scoring the goals and stop them from scoring any. The concluding score was 10-0 to Bedales.

We then went through to the next round, where the remaining 8 teams were split into two sections.
The match we played first was against Bohunt, we had to settle down before we could start easily linking the passes into our circle, and we didn’t make many mistakes. Bohunt were a strong team who went out hard from the start, and played on any mistake we made. We started off quite slowly, but after half-time we didn’t let up and the entire team participated to the final score of 8-5 to Bedales.

We then went on to play Farnborough Hill and then Thornden, winning both games quite easily with high scores. The whole team worked together very well again and didn’t let very many goals past. We only had three goals against us after both games. The score against Farnborough Hill was 9-2 and the score against Thornden was 11-1.

Our final game in this round was against Cams Hill where we beat them 7-1. We had won all of our matches in our section so we went on to play the people that came second in the other section, PGS.
The final score was 10-6 to them -They had a huge advantage as most of them had been playing together since year 3 and we had only had six training sessions together.

Overall, we came third out of twenty-seven schools, which was very impressive seeing as it was our first competitive match as a team, and we were up against teams that had been playing together for at least two years. It was really good to see how much potential the team has, considering how well we did without very much practice, so with practice we could be a very strong team.
