Best football season in a decade for Bedales 1st XI

12/12/2011

A 7-0 win for Bedales against More House capped the best season for the last decade for the Bedales first XI football team who have won 13 out of 15 fixtures.

With a mix of sixth form and Block 5 (Year 11) players in the squad, the team has worked extremely hard both in training and during their matches and the quality of play has been exceptional. There have been impressive victories against Colfe’s School, Hampton School, Marlborough College, Frensham Heights, Lancing College, Box Hill School, and Winchester College.

This term has been a busy one for all of the sports teams at Bedales, not just in the core sports of girls’ hockey and boys’ football; fixtures in netball, boys’ hockey, tennis, and rugby have also taken place.

For the second successive year, Bedales entered boys’ rugby teams in the Hampshire schools competition. The U15 side, made up of Block 3 and 4 (Year 9 and 10) students, is currently in the semi-final of the bowl competition having beaten Wyvern College in the previous round. The U16 side had a very good win in the quarter final of their bowl competition against Romsey School and are also in the semi-final.

In preparation for the netball season next term, the girls’ teams recently took part in a training session with Super League champions Maverick team player Tallisa Haynes. The girls were put through their paces in some drills and game play and thoroughly enjoyed the session. Six Bedales girls have been selected to attend trials for her academy and will attend training next term with the squad.

“It has been evident that the attitude, commitment and consequently the standard of the Bedales sports teams have really improved this year, and the school is now competing well at local, county and national level in a number of cups and tournaments” said Keith Budge, Headmaster, Bedales Schools.
