Bubbles at Bedales

Children at Dunannie, Bedales pre-prep school, spent a whole day taking part in workshops, organised by the London Science Museum. The visit, funded by the Bedales Parents’ Association, showed the children how science plays a vital role in our every day lives.

The Science Museum Outreach Team organised three workshops: The Three Little Pigs, which demonstrated the properties of different materials; The Golden Coconut, which showed how forces and motion work; and finally The Bubble Show. The Bubble Show began with the Team explaining the 'special recipe' needed to make the bubble mixture which in turn produced bubbles of all shapes and sizes - even a giant one which the children stepped inside! The Team then introduced the idea of molecules and how they behave.

The interactive story-telling and lively demonstrations captivated the children; and the Team connected immediately with the young audience through their energy and enthusiasm. Children as young as three clearly enjoyed the experiments and explanations.  Although this was a whole school activity, the show linked specifically to the curriculum activities of Years 1 and 2, who have been investigating materials in their Science lessons.

The London Science Museum is dedicated to the promotion of science, bringing science to life and life to science. The Museum is world renowned for its historic collections, awe-inspiring galleries and inspirational exhibitions; entrance is free.
