Budding Bedales artists gain prestigious art college places
Bedales School has a reputation for high quality art teaching and last year the school proved this was well deserved when over 90% of art students achieved either an A or B grade. This year Bedales has seen a record number of students being accepted by prestigious art colleges. From September, 12 students will continue their studies at colleges such as the London College of Fashion; Central St Martin’s College; and Brighton and Falmouth Colleges of Art.
Head of Art, George Hatton, says:
‘Students of art need to have the confidence to express themselves in whatever way they choose. But in their early years, they have to be introduced to the basic language of art which is why we focus on observational drawing. 25 percent of time-tabled class-time is dedicated to life-drawing which gives students a strong base from which to develop their own interests and ideas, and to grow into versatile artists.’
This is clearly shown by the variety of work produced by the A level students this year, which is an outstanding testament to their skill and talent, and ranges from traditional oil and water colour paintings to more contemporary sculptures and installations in a variety of materials.
Surrey preparatory school, Belmont, will be visiting Bedales this week for a gallery viewing and art workshop.
