Bedales School recently entered its 20th year of drama exchange visits with Dubai College by once again hosting sixth form Theatre Studies students from the United Arab Emirates.
Using just a white sheet as a prop, the group of six Dubai College students (aged 17 and 18) performed to nine schools around Petersfield, including Dunannie, Dunhurst and Bedales. Following the performances, they conducted interactive drama workshops for the younger children.
The devised performance was an original piece of work in the style of Roald Dahl with a modern twist, drawing inspiration from his key characters, stories and language, and told the story of Peter, a boy with an overactive imagination, and his friend Penelope.
Spending the week accommodated in the upper sixth boarding house at Bedales, the Dubai College students enjoyed being reunited with the Bedales students whom they hosted last year. In addition to their own performances, visiting London to see a performance of Jerusalem and watching Bedales students perform Cabaret were amongst the highlights of their week.
Headmaster of Bedales Schools, Keith Budge commented: “Our drama exchange programme with Dubai College is an integral part of the school’s extensive series of international visits and activities. Students and staff at Bedales were delighted to welcome the group, and we really enjoyed hosting them. Such links help our students connect with other parts of the world.”
