Dunannie Drummers

13/12/2010

Children at Dunannie, Bedales Pre-preparatory School, enjoyed a morning of drumming while taking part in an African drumming workshop.

Led by teacher Kristian Bediiako, both pupils and teachers learned the different drum beats and performed traditional African songs. They also learned about the importance of music in African culture and why Africans believe everyone has the ability to make music no matter how young or old.
Kristian, who also teaches at Bedales Junior School, Dunhurst, has inspired many young drummers and guitarists over the 7 years he has been at the School and believes African music provides an excellent foundation for learning rhythm.

Commenting on the workshop, Dunannie Headteacher, Jo Webbern, said: “The children very much enjoyed the session and one little girl from reception even asked Kristian if he could come back again, which was lovely to observe. The music also brought a sunny African vibe to the School despite the chill outside.”
