Dunannie Pupils create Harvest Baskets for Local Community
A special harvest celebration organised at Bedales pre-prep school, Dunannie, featured a bounty of baskets created by pupils for the local community. Fruit, vegetables, home-made jams, chutneys, tins, packets, cereals and treats were presented in beautifully decorated baskets and boxes to be enjoyed by the young and old in need in the community. The baskets went to Stonepillow, a charity which helps young homeless people and Ramscote residential home for the elderly.
All pupils presented their harvest gifts to Dunannie Head Jo Webbern and Dunhurst art teacher Ken Cope followed by performances by all year groups, including the nursery, in music, dance and recitals to celebrate the harvest theme. Teacher Ken Cope gave a talk on the theme of ‘thankfulness’ inviting pupils to re-enact the voyage of the Pilgrims on the Mayflower from Plymouth to America to help them understand the tradition of Thanksgiving and why it is important to be thankful for the food we receive.
Commenting on the harvest celebration, Dunannie Head, Jo Webbern said, “We were overwhelmed with how much effort the pupils and their parents had put into the harvest baskets and we are pleased to be able to pass these on to two very worthwhile community groups. We were all very impressed by the children’s performances, which featured the nursery class re-enactment of ‘dancing leaves’ and food and harvest themed songs and recitals by all year groups and our junior and senior choirs.”
