'Outstanding Dunhurst' confirmed by Ofsted

23/06/2011

Dunhurst, Bedales Junior School, offers ‘outstanding’ boarding provision according to Ofsted inspectors. This is the highest level of rating by the inspectorate who found the school’s provision to be “of exceptionally high standard”.

Having visited the school in May 2011, the independent team of inspectors commented on the school’s “strong sense of community.. inclusive environment.. positive relationships.. excellent levels of support to boarders and parents.. and the exceptional local and international community involvement”.

Dunhurst Head Penny Watkins commented:

“This very positive Ofsted report is affirmation of our approach at Dunhurst which has pupils’ development and well-being at its centre. I would like to pay tribute to the dedication and commitment of our staff who are wonderful role models for the children under our supervision. We are always keen to find ways to improve further and will be taking on board the findings and recommendations of the inspectors.”

This latest report on Dunhurst’s boarding follows Ofsted’s publication in 2010 of a full assessment of Dunhurst’s teaching which was found to be "stimulating and exciting…where individual talents are discovered and encouraged" and where pupils "love coming to school".
