Dunhurst pupils raise over £2,000 for charities

12/12/2011

Pupils from Dunhurst, Bedales junior school, recently held their annual HOPiT Fair, raising over £2,000 for their chosen charities.

HOPiT (helping out people in trouble) is a child run scheme at Dunhurst where the pupils decide on which charities the school should support and then they arrange a number of events throughout the year to raise money for them, including the annual HOPiT Fair.

The children planned and prepared their own stalls, selling a range of goodies from cakes and sweets to crafts, jewellery and makeovers for parents and friends.

Jane Grubb, Head of Dunhurst, commented “The HOPiT Fair was truly amazing and I was bowled over by the children’s enthusiasm for giving. I was impressed with the range of ideas and the high levels of energy and pupil participation. The fair was a wonderfully vibrant affair and it was so lovely to see the imagination shown by children to make their stalls a success and raise such a big sum for the charities they chose to support.”

The charities benefiting from Dunhurst’s support this year include Dreams Come True, The Naked Heart Foundation, Macmillan Cancer Support, Anno’s Africa, Parkinson’s Disease Society, Make a Wish Foundation, Guide Dogs for the Blind, Winston’s Wish, Help for Heroes and Hounds for Heroes.
