Film Festival showcases Bedales students’ initiative and creativity
Colourfully and cleverly masterminded by Fred Aspel in 6.2 (Upper Sixth) and entirely student-led, the Bedales Film Festival 2012, which is now in its 3rd year, was a great success.
Over 15 films by Bedales students were watched in the school’s Lupton Hall by an appreciative audience and scrutinised by a panel of five judges comprising Bedales Headmaster, Keith Budge; Deputy Head Dominic Oliver; Housemistress, Jenni Brittain; student Thaddeus Rasbash (6.2); and film producer/director, Koa Padolsky.
There were prizes for Best Comedy, Best Art Film, Best Music, Best Performance and Best Drama, with the overall prize going to Toby Goodger (6.2) for his remarkable account of the time he and his two brothers (both former Bedales students) spent in the wilds of the Yukon. Tarquin Ramsay’s (Block 5/Year 11) sensitive account of an old man’s fading musical powers was also in the top three, as well as winning the prize for Best Music and Best Drama.
Keith Budge explained:
“Some of the films were carefully put together over months; some, more Blair Witch Project than high budget, resulted from the determined and frantic efforts of a wet Sunday afternoon. The range was therefore wide but the standard was impressive and shows a significant tick up from last year, making the annual Film Festival one of many beacons to student initiative and creativity here at Bedales.”
Koa Padolsky commented:
“I was thoroughly impressed with the range of ideas, forms of expression and creativity the students have put into their projects. It was very exciting to see a new generation of emerging filmmakers put their ideas to film and be so positively received by a supportive audience.”
