Funky and fun Dunannie Christmas play
Children from Dunannie, Bedales pre-preparatory school, have performed their annual Christmas nativity play to a packed audience of parents.
In the best tradition of avoiding being too traditional, the Dunannie players presented a wonderfully different take on the Nativity. The narrators and lead roles (Year 3) were joined by three large groups of angels (Year 2), astronomers (Year 1) and children of the world (Reception) who were all dressed (with the kind help of around 30 Dunannie parents) with a splendid, contemporary stylishness - the children of the world, be-flagged, giving a foretaste of the Olympic theme. Displaying lots of energy, the children had fun singing and dancing along to a disco version of ‘Hark the Herald Angels Sing’ and Bob Marley’s ‘One Love’. Parents even joined in at the end swaying along with glow sticks to ‘Christmas Candle’ to get everyone in the festive spirit.
Writing, directing and choreographing, Dunannie Nursery teacher Sharon Rose, made the play a very engaging half hour which included pogoing and air guitar!
Jo Webbern, Head of Dunannie commented: “The children sang and danced so beautifully with such discipline and energy and I am very proud of them. They showed everyone their strengths from singing, dancing and acting, to their musical abilities. The performance was absolutely stunning - funky and fun.”
