Local schools attend Bedales conference to discuss the economy

02/07/2009

Bedales School recently hosted a conference organised by The European Atlantic Movement (TEAM) entitled 'Will the global economic crisis lead to a new world order?' Sixth-formers from Bedales as well as students from Churcher's College and The Petersfield School attended the conference and heard experts discuss the state of the economy.

The conference took place over a full day with a series of lectures, followed by plenary and 'question and answer' sessions. The speakers provided a detailed analysis of the current economic situation and lectures included: 'Obama and the crisis of Anglo-American capitalism'; 'The current financial and economic meltdown'; and 'The role of government failure in the credit crunch'.

History Teacher, Chris Bott, says:

'The conference provoked a stimulating and challenging dialogue, with some excellent questions from the students. It was a high powered and informative event which the students clearly enjoyed.'

TEAM first came to Bedales four years ago and the school was delighted to welcome the organisation back again. TEAM is an independent educational foundation which aims to promote understanding and discussion of world affairs.
