Superb results for Bedales’ girls’ hockey teams
The Bedales girls’ U14 XI team had an amazing game against strong hockey school Portsmouth Grammar last week. Led by captain, Becky Grubb, they triumphed in a 4-3 win. The team played with determination, with Becky encouraging the team up and down the pitch. The ball moved up the attacking half with power and precision allowing the attackers to get into the D area and shoot. Ellie Kleinlercher played well in goal until injured and Rory Abell swiftly moved into her position for the final eight minutes of the match.
Elsewhere, the 1st XI girls’ hockey team played their final game of the season against Churcher’s College. Bedales made a fantastic start with an early goal ten minutes in after some great attacking play and continued to pressure the opposition until another goal was scored by Georgie Gulliver. The girls conceded one goal after being caught on the break just before half time but remained positive and came back stronger in the second half with goalkeeper Izzy Fitzgerald making a few fantastic saves coming out off her line to clear the ball before Churcher’s could take advantage. Bedales gave away a penalty corner half way through the 2nd half and Churcher’s converted well with the final score 2-2.
It was also a busy week for the boys’ football teams. The 2nd XI beat Frensham Heights 6-0 with Jack Scullion (6.2 – upper sixth) scoring a hat-trick, the U15s beat Charterhouse 4-1, and the 2nd XI beat King Edward’s 6-2 when James Dare (6.2 – upper sixth) scored a hat-trick.
