Wanted: tree sponsors

29/06/2011

To help with ‘Greening Bedales’, would you consider sponsoring a young lime tree on the Bedales estate?

At the last Badley Weekend, students and staff planted 20 lime trees as part of a Whole School Effort to create a wonderful new avenue close to the Outdoor Work department. Trees are - and always have been - an essential part of the Bedales community. Over its lifetime, the school has striven to maintain its lush, green estate, which provides a haven for wildlife and birds – as well as an inspiring and calming environment for our community. These young saplings are in a beautiful, peaceful space, close to the chickens and ducks – perfect for relaxing or picnicking, and will be providing shelter, shade and solace for many years to come.

There is now a limited opportunity for members of the Bedales community to sponsor these trees.…

  • Photograph of the tree provided to the successful bidder
  • Option to place a commemorative plaque next to the tree (perhaps to remember somebody connected to the school)
  • Help to finance the purchase of the trees and tree-planting
  • Enable surplus funds to support the John Badley Foundation bursary scheme

Participating in the online auction is straight forward and has already started – thank you to those who have already bid. Please click here to go to the special website, and choose one of the remaining trees to sponsor - some are dressed by sudents and staff; others are not!

If you would prefer, we can offer current parents a hassle-free way to ‘buy’ a tree straight away (rather than registering via the website) by emailing Lorraine Galliers (lgalliers@bedales.org.uk) with confirmation of which tree you would like to 'buy' - the 'buy me now' prices vary depending on the tree (see them on the website). Please also confim that the price can be added to your school account.

The John Badley Foundation provides bursaries for talented children who would benefit from a Bedales education, but who otherwise are unable to consider attending an independent school. We hope that people will get behind this initiative – you could sponsor a tree yourself, club together with some friends or family, or dedicate a tree to somebody – the possibilities are endless. The surplus funds raised will go towards giving a child a transformational opportunity to come to Bedales or Dunhurst, and benefit from all we have to offer – from boarding, to Outdoor Work, to music, drama and inspirational teaching, to help them go and change the world.

If you have any questions, please contact Lorraine Galliers (tel: 01730 711696). For those visiting Parents’ Day on Saturday, we look forward to seeing you; please pop over to visit the Bedales Schools Development Trust gazebo (in the orchard, weather permitting!).
