Notting Hill Prep School visit
At the beginning of January, 16 Year 7s from London school Notting Hill Prep visited Bedales for a workshop on science. Head of Physics at Bedales, Toby Hardy and Head of Chemistry, Michael Newman, gave a fascinating interactive presentation on the five senses’. The talk included plenty of practical demonstrations and hands-on work on the senses and how they can be used to perceive the world around us: glasses that turn the world upside down; taste that only some people can experience; and making objects resonate to create sound were just some of the activities. The visiting students then went on to make their own pinhole cameras and spent time understanding how to create and focus an image. The children left with goody bags containing ‘taste and smell’ strips, a book mark, a yoyo and of course, their own pinhole cameras.
