GILLIAN PLUMMER:
NATURAL HISTORY
PHOTOGRAPHY
Gillian specialises in macro and
close-up plant photography,
which is her passion. What
makes her work special is her
trained eye for effective colour
combinations and her ability
to see things from a different
perspective. The images in
the exhibition explore complexity,
flamboyance, subtlety and mystique,
and set out to evoke intrigue and
wonder.
Gillian Plummer’s
work has been
exhibited around
the country at
venues including
The Medici
Gallery Mayfair,
Kew Gardens,
RHS Wisley, Bury St Edmunds Art
Gallery and the National Trust’s
Sutton Hoo site. She is a member
of the Garden Media Guild and the
Garden Photographers’ Association.
Her work is used commercially by
high street businesses such as Marks
& Spencer, Paperchase and Merrill
Lynch, national and international
newspapers, magazines and book
publishers, designers and advertisers.
Her illustrated feature articles are
published here in the UK and in the
Middle East.

BEDALES ART, DESIGN &
TEXTILES 08
After last year’s taster of work from
the Bedales Assessed Course, the
first cohort has now been examined
after two years of study and practical
work and this is an opportunity to
celebrate their achievements. The
higher profile of sculpture, ceramics
and other 3-D work reflects
increased staffing in the department.
Twenty-five art students in the first
year sixth get a first opportunity
to show their work in public at this
level and seventeen students in the
upper sixth each make their farewell
to the school with a small, personal
exhibition. A good number of these
latter students have secured places at
leading art colleges.
The Design Department continues
to work in a multi-disciplinary
environment, with students tackling
examined work in textiles, furniture
and product design, and elements of
computer control and electronics.
The department will show ‘A’
level Product Design and work by
Bedales Assessed Course students in
younger years. This work represents
a real breadth of material choice
and innovation. Many students have
produced creative work focussed
on a style or user need but there is
also an increasing
environmental
awareness and
concern for
sustainability.
