Group Three experienced a Sculpture Workshop in June run
by local artist, Ethna Mathews. Ethna brought in one or two
of her own pieces including soil gathered from the seven continents
displayed in wooden troughs made from locally found trees.
Her soil sample from the Antarctic was collected from outside
Scottís hut and was displayed in a trough made from
Bog Oak. After this introduction Group Three took a walk to
the Hangers and created their own sculptures from handfuls
of local clay, twigs, stones and leaves.
Ethna encouraged the children to use cuneiform letters made
with these materials or carved into the soil. |
