Year One

Matisse Exhibition at Bedales

Children in Year 1 had a very inspiring visit to  Bedales Gallery to see the visiting Matisse Exhibition. They returned to school  full of ideas for making their own paper collages.

The Cafe

Year 1 have recently had great fun learning to run a business. They visited a local café where they enjoyed a drink and piece of cake, and learnt how a café is run. Later in the week they decorated the classroom with table cloths and flowers, and everyone was given a chance to visit the One tree café, Mark 2!

Archaeological Dig

The children in Year 1 have recently visited the site of an archaeological dig. They managed to find several flint tools which they cleaned ready for investigation.  It was made even more exciting as the site was situated in one of the children’s gardens!

Gardening

Everyone has been busy planting in their school gardens. Year 1 have been very careful with their new plants as they can be easily damaged by rough hands.

Costumes and clothes

‘How am I going to climb on the adventure playground in these?  What a special time Year 1 had trying on costumes in Dunannie’s theatre wardrobe. It gave them lots of ideas for story writing.

Weaving

‘Pull back the warp to weave the weft through.’  Everyone has had a chance to add to the year 1 weaving of the sea.

Cartons and boxes

‘If I just stick this here then my model will be perfect.’ Year 1 have been exploring different cartons and boxes.

The fancy dress hire shop

I’m off to a fancy dress party and need a special costume to hire. What do you think would suit me?

Class concert

Every ounce of concentration was used to rehearse for our class concert.

Fierce Indian Braves!

Year 1 had lots of fun practising being ferocious and scary for their parts in Peter Pan. Dressed in beaded and feather covered costumes they stomped and chanted in the smoky atmosphere of their Indian camp.

Disguises

Can you recognise us?

As part of their project on My Body, Year 1 have dressed up in disguises. They were then photographed  and the images were manipulated to create different pictures.

Autumn comes to Dunannie

On a warm sunny afternoon Year One enjoyed exploring the orchard and hedgerows searching for signs of autumn. They came across an abundance of blackberries which they harvested. On their return to the classroom they tasted them and discussed how they could use them in cooking. They talked about how they could store them and agreed to freeze them. They are looking forward to making some blackberry and apple jam.

Ourselves

Our topic this term is Ourselves. We have been thinking about what is inside our bodies. We discussed what would happen to our bodies if we didn't have a skeleton. We looked at the different bones and their position, then we had fun making a skeleton using wooden blocks.
