Snowtime

Lots of excitement as the first snow of winter fell on the Orchard. Wrapped up warmly, the Nursery children had a marvellous time building snowmen.

Visitors

The Nursery have had quite a few visitors this term, some new friends, and some old ones from the past. Anu, our Indian friend, often comes to school to tell the children about her culture.

She came into school to take a school assembly and then took the children outside to draw festive Rangoli patterns on the playground. Everyone loved having their hands painted with henna patterns.

It was a very special day when a new little baby came to visit his brother in the Nursery. The children were fascinated to see how small he was and enjoyed sneaking a little cuddle.

The New building is proving a great hit with everyone in the school. At the moment, the Nursery children enjoy all the equipment in the mornings with the older children getting the chance to enjoy everything later in the day. It is all very exciting!

The children have been enjoying cooking in their new kitchen. They collected apples from the orchard and everyone had the chance to make an apple crumble.

Everyone is enjoying playing with toys in the new Home Corner.

Children from the Nursery and Reception classes play together in the sandpit.

At Snack Time Nursery children sit and eat together. They had great fun making their own snack mats.

Exciting New Changes for  Dunannie Nursery

In September 2006 we opened our new wonderfully equipped Nursery for our youngest children, thanks to the imaginative renovation of our Dutch barn. The interior is well equipped with skilfully crafted furniture from Community Play Things, a company known for designing and making superb quality children’s furniture. The light, airy spaces inside allow for multi-purpose playing, role play and creative activities. Outside there are sandpits, gardens, areas for bikes and access to the orchard.

Bluebell woods

Carpets of bluebells welcomed the Nursery as they went for a woodland walk. They used their senses to smell the beautiful flowers and looked at all the wonderful colours as they ate their snack.  One question kept cropping up.  Why are some bluebells white?

Visit to Hilliers garden Centre

Children in Dunannie’s Nursery Class are surrounded by nature both inside and outside the classroom with their current topic on growth. The children’s gardens are now well on the way to producing a flourishing array of beautiful flowers and the classroom Is full of a variety of vegetables. As part of their topic, Chris, Carol and Tracy from Hilliers Garden Centre, warmly welcomed the Nursery, and gave them a practical demonstration all about planting. Each child learnt the value of plants and having purchased their seeds, they learnt how to plant them correctly.

Lamb visit to Bedales

The Nursery had a lovely visit to see baby lambs at the Black Barn in Bedales.  Twin lambs had been born just three hours before we arrived.  The children were able to stroke the most recent babies and then we went to look at the sheep in the field.  Peter Coates told us about some triplet lambs that were being bottle fed.

The children enjoyed walking through Dunhurst, looking at sculptures and pet rabbits on the way!

Taking a break

This little drummer boy is having a rest from the nursery Nativity. The children all enjoyed working together on their Christmas play, everyone having the chance to act and sing.

Is there a Traffic Warden around here?

Every playtime the children have the chance to play with a wide variety of equipment and outdoor toys. After riding round the track, they have been practising carefully parking their bikes in the marked areas.

Planting Conkers

All the children at Dunannie have a chance to do gardening in their own special areas. The Nursery children are collecting soil in individual pots ready for planting conkers.

A Walk around the Orchard

Everyone has been trying out their  brand new overalls. These will allow the children to have lots of fun doing more unrestricted outdoor activities and find all the muddy puddles.

We’re ready!

What will we find in the Orchard?  The children have gathered on the orchard steps before going on a Nature Hunt. They have been learning about the wildlife and are excitedly waiting to explore.

Welcome to the Nursery

The new children are settling into the Nursery, learning the daily routines and making friends. They have been participating in a variety of activities in the classroom and around the grounds. After putting on their new waterproof suits, they had a very enjoyable morning planting all their spring bulbs with the help of one of their visitors.
