Students learn the art of seat weaving
Bedales rush-seated Library chairs were designed by Ernest Gimson, and are integral to the furnishing of the Library. The rushes need to be replaced regularly, and following the retirement of our expert restorer Librarian, Jane Kirby, attended a course at West Dean College to learn the method. Last term a small group from Block 5 joined Jane in Outdoor Work, repairing a chair each over the course of the term using pre-twisted rush.
