What makes a good teacher at Dunhurst?
Somebody who has bucket loads of enthusiasm, and someone who goes the extra mile to make sure that lessons are enjoyable and challenging.
What are you trying to encourage and instil in your pupils?
Good sportsmanship and sporting etiquette. Confidence to try new things and to be the best that they can possibly be. A desire to challenge themselves to become a better performer.
Apart from your teaching role, what else do you get involved with at the school?
I am a strong believer that there is something for everybody whether it is as a performer or as a sports leader or official. In my role as Head of Deptment a lot of my time is already committed with teams and promoting sport across the school. However, I am currently involved with developing a gifted and talented programme for sport at Dunhurst and introducing a new sports leadership course for Block 2 students.
In your opinion, what makes Dunhurst special?
Dunhurst is a very friendly place and I think that that the way that everybody is valued as an individual makes Dunhurst special.
What is your best memory of Dunhurst?
I am a new member of staff at the school so I only have a term to draw from. In my short time the best memories so far include the school play and Olympic day. The latter took place on one of the only sunny days during the summer term. We had a number of external coaches delivering Olympic sports and the children also took part in a whole school athletics event in the afternoon. It was an enjoyable day and got the children really excited about London 2012.
Who or what inspires you?
I was exceptionally lucky to have had an amazing PE teacher who has inspired me to do the job that I do today. However I think that the recent London 2012 Olympics has been an excellent platform to inspire anybody. Elite athletes that are so driven and committed to the cause to achieve is massively inspirational!
Tell us something not a lot of people know about you.
I have met Dame Kelly Holmes.
