A super end to the second half of the Netball season

Bedales Senior, Co-curricular
The second half of the Netball season has been just as positive as the first! The whole season has been extremely enjoyable, with lots of students having the opportunity to participate in lessons, team training sessions and matches. I have really enjoyed coaching both team and non-team players and seeing players of all abilities enjoying the game.

U14s

The Girls' U14s have had a brilliant season, with lots of opportunities for training in lessons, as well as lots of opportunities to play in matches. This half of the season they have been developing their defensive play, especially their use of stage two defence (marking the ball). I have seen a steady improvement in their defensive play, which was highlighted in their final game of the season, where both the A and B teams ended on a high by winning their games. There were 19 players in total that attended the final match, and I hope to see these numbers continue into next season.

U15s

The Girls' U15s have had a lighter second season of matches, but they have performed well as a team with great grit and determination. Developing the fundamental skills and applying them into a game situation has been the focus, which has shown a steady improvement over the second half of the season. With a keen group of netballers, I am looking forward to seeing these players join the senior training sessions next year as it will provide a faster paced environment, encouraging focus on refining their skillset, which will result in the development of their performance on the court.

Seniors

The seniors have had a fantastic season.  The 1st team have worked extremely well together, taking every opportunity to work together to improve their performance. They have made it through the season with only one loss, and it was a closely contested loss at that!

The 2nd team has also performed extremely well, winning their last game of the season. The team has been ever changing and evolving, with girls who didn’t want to play fixtures at the start of the season getting involved during the second half, which has been fantastic to see.

I am looking forward to watching the teams continue to develop next season, but I will be sorry to see the 6.2s leave; they have been an asset to the team and will be missed at both training and matches.

Focus for next season

Looking ahead to next season, we're aiming to:
  • continue to develop the application of fundamental skills into game situations in Block 3 and 4
  • look to focus on tactics for senior training
  • encourage greater participation in 2nd and 3rd team netball

There has been lots of help from numerous members of staff with the Netball season this year, and it wouldn't be possible to participate in training and matches without them. I would like to thank Mariela Walton and Caz Hulbert for their support in lessons, match coaching and umpiring. Thanks to Carmen Leonard for sorting transport, first aid kits and snacks/water. Thanks to Ally Prior for your support in Monday Netball lessons, and finally thank you to Claire Lock and David Dryburgh for the help when we needed extra staff to take all the fixtures.
