Three Tales from Old Japan
These newly adapted plays were performed by Dunhurst Blocks 1 and 2.
These ancient stories are less well known to Western audiences but their themes are universal: good and evil, ambition, pride, jealousy and love. In The Peach Boy, Momotaro overthrows the underworld in a desperate battle with demons and ogres; Haughty hero Prince Yamato Take, the kingdom’s greatest warrior, has to learn that fame comes at a price; finally, in The Bamboo Cutter and the Moon-Maiden, the beautiful and otherworldly Lady Kaguya is besieged by suitors eager to win her hand in marriage.
