Dr Patrick Magee was released from prison in 1999 under the terms of the Good Friday Agreement. For 27 years he was a committed member of the IRA. Jo Berry lost her father, Sir Anthony Berry in the Brighton Bomb and made a decision two days later to bring something positive out of the violence and understand the ‘enemy’. In November 2000 Pat agreed to meet Jo. The first meeting was three hours and led to them working together to promote dialogue and peace. Jo founded the charity Building Bridges for Peace, and advocates that empathy is the biggest weapon we have to end conflict. With political, religious and racial divides deepening as global and local events unfold, their words offer a message of hope and encourage us all to see the humanity in others. They have been frequently invited to address international conferences, schools, prisons and universities.
