This year we’re offering not one but three basketry courses! Each course is designed to make a specific piece:
- Oval Shoulder Bag course - Monday 7 - Tuesday 8 July, £290
- Bread Basket course - Wednesday 9 July, £145
- Fruit Bowl course - (Thursday 10 - Friday 11 July, £290)
Each course will be limited to between four and six participants.
All materials, plus lunch and tea/coffee, are included.
Aim of the course
Together we’ll immerse ourselves in the wonders of willow weaving, creating beautiful, traditional baskets.
What will you learn?
You will learn to recognise the difference between frame baskets and stake and strand baskets; handle willow to create various weave patterns; use a variety of hand tools safely, and understand the sustainable credentials and environmental benefits of UK grown willow.
You will also leave the course with a basket you have made:
Oval shoulder bag – Stake and strand basket, with canvas strap on an underfoot base.
Bread basket – Shallow, round, stake and strand platter with border.
Fruit bowl – Round frame basket with side handles.
This course is suitable for…
These courses are suitable for both beginners and those with previous basketry experience. You will need manual dexterity and stamina. If you suffer from arthritis or joint issues such as carpel tunnel, please discuss this with Louise before booking.
Why choose this course?
Each course is tailored to create a specific piece, so you will only be learning about an area that is of particular interest to you. Because you’ll only be focusing on one piece, and participant numbers are so restricted, you will have the time and tuition needed to make something really special.
Timetable
Courses run every day 9.30am - 5pm.
Monday – First day of the oval shoulder bag course.
Tuesday – Second day of the oval shoulder bag course.
Wednesday – One day bread basket course.
