Bedales Nursery & Pre-prep, Dunannie welcomed its new Head on 12 March – Fiona Read, formerly Head of the Primary School at the British School in Tokyo.

Prior to starting, Fiona was warmly welcomed to Dunannie by a video made by the children. Despite COVID-related restrictions, families have also had the opportunity to meet Fiona via a webinar in February.

Fiona spent her first week at Dunannie making the most of the recent warm weather by exploring the school grounds, including the Orchard, with the children. Since schools re-opened on 8 March, the focus at Dunannie has been to ensure that children are feeling safe and happy, reconnecting with their friends and teachers, and learning outdoors at every opportunity.

Fiona is now looking forward to working with colleagues to ensure Dunannie children have the strongest foundation on which to build their education.

Fiona said: “In my first few days in Dunannie, I can sense what a special place it is. Dunannie is a happy school, with dedicated and inspirational teachers who develop strong relationships with the children. It is a school where childhood is respected and where children don’t just make progress, but they flourish. I can already see the joy the children experience every day, and it is a privilege to be part of such an innovative school.”

The next Dunannie Open Morning will take place online on 15 May, when prospective families can hear from Fiona and find out more about the school. There is more information is at https://www.bedales.org.uk/opendays.
