Dunhurst lifts Les Petter trophy
Bedales Prep School, Dunhurst have beaten 14 other schools to win the annual Les Petter football tournament in Petersfield.
The event, which took place on 9 June, took the format of two groups of seven, each team playing each other once with the top two in each group entering the Semi-Final knock-out stage.
Dunhurst started strongly in their first game against Steep - winning 2-0 - followed by two nervy 0-0 games against Ditcham Park and Herne. Dunhurst saw off competition from Langrish, Buriton and Froxfield to find themselves in the semi-final against Ditcham’s first team.
Jonathan Peers, managing the team said: “That game was extremely close and both teams seemed a little in awe of the occasion and didn’t play their natural games. We were fortunate to scrape home 1-0.”
That score put Dunhurst into the final against Herne and after a goalless game, a nerve-wracking penalty shootout. Dunhurst scored on every occasion and blocked Herne’s attempts at goal to win the tournament.
Jonathan said: “It was great to see the boys jump for joy at the final penalty!”
