Jazz Day held for local schools
A Jazz Day event held at Bedales Prep School, Dunhurst saw three local schools come together for a lively workshop on the theme: ‘Carnival of the Jazz Animals’.
Pupils ranging from years 4-6 enjoyed a day experimenting with music and creating a new take on Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals, combining music from the original score with the Sonny Rollins hit, Don’t Stop the Carnival.
The music department at Dunhurst opened its doors to 25 pupils from Churcher’s Prep and Langrish Primary, Petersfield and Camelsdale Primary in Haslemere.
Director of Music at Dunhurst and Dunannie, Ben Harlan said: “With all music making, the key is to play with conviction, even if you get a wrong note, as long as you’re convincing, no-one notices and often your mistakes can be the best bit!”
After the workshop, pupils put together a show from all they had learnt and performed in front of an audience of parents and staff.
