Local shops to display Dunhurst and Dunannie artwork
Pupils in Petersfield are proudly showing off their artwork from last term in a vintage-themed art exhibition, which is on display at a number of spots around the town this fortnight.
The project, known as ArtShop 2018, comprises work from several local schools including Bedales Prep School, Dunhurst, Bedales Pre-prep, Dunannie, Steep C of E Primary School, Churcher’s College Junior School and Nursery, Sheet Primary School and Petersfield Infant School.
The project covers all things ‘vintage’ as represented through ceramics, painting, lino-print, textiles and mixed-media and examples include items such as a ceramic Volkswagen Beetle, Lucienne Day inspired lamp shades, decoupage and examples of quilting.
Head of Art at Bedales Prep School, Dunhurst Susan McFarlane, who devised the inter-school exhibition, said: “This is a celebration of children’s art in the local community. Seeing their work exhibited outside of a school setting gives pupils a sense of pride and achievement. Equally, children’s art is, by its nature, joyous and uplifting, and it is important to share this with everyone. It would be great if more schools and shops get involved next year to make it an annual event”.
You can visit the exhibited works at a number of spots around the town until 5 May, including: Bunch’s, Sew Creative, One Tree Books, Sue Ryder Shop, The Fabric House, Madeleine’s Kitchen, Petersfield Library, Petersfield Museum, The Great British Cake Shop.
Susan added: “The artwork in the shop windows look so fresh, lively and interesting, please do go and look at all the wonderful displays around town.”
