New Head of Bedales Prep School announced
Colin Baty has been announced as the new Head of Bedales Prep School, Dunhurst (Steep, Hampshire) from September 2017. He will succeed Jane Grubb who has decided to stand down next summer after six years to pursue a new business venture. Colin taught at Dunhurst between 1999 and 2005 and his wife Debbie taught at Bedales Pre-prep, Dunannie, from 1996 to 2005 and grew up in Steep. They were also both house parents at the prep school.
Colin grew up in New Zealand and attended Waikato University. He holds a Bachelor of Education degree and a National Qualification in Headship from the National College of School Leadership. After his time at Dunhurst, he became Deputy Head at Moreton Hall Prep School in Suffolk, before moving to Great Walstead Prep School, Hayward’s Heath, in 2009. Initially appointed as Deputy Head, he became Headmaster there in September 2010. Colin has previously been a Head of Department of Geography, PSHE, History, Maths and Sport and his interests range from Drama through to mindfulness.
Keith Budge, Headmaster, Bedales Schools said: “I know Colin, Debbie and family will be sorely missed by Great Walstead School and we are very much looking forward to welcoming them back to Steep. Colin has an impressive track record and we will no doubt benefit from his impressive drive, vision and innate understanding of the Bedales difference”.
Colin Baty added: “We are really excited about being part of the Dunhurst and Bedales community. Dunhurst offers such a high quality prep school education in a wonderful environment, and I am looking forward to working with the excellent teaching team at Dunhurst to strengthen further the school’s distinctiveness and performance.”
Jane Grubb will continue as Head of Dunhurst in the coming year, during which time Colin and Debbie will be making visits to meet parents and staff.
