The Bedales estate has evolved with an eclectic mix of beautiful and architecturally significant buildings, funded by generous donations from people whose lives have been touched by the school; they are inspirational places in which to learn.
Donations have also provided life-changing opportunities for individual students through the John Badley Foundation bursary scheme.
How you can help
There are several ways you can support the John Badley Foundation.
To make a donation to the John Badley Foundation, download and complete our Donation and Gift Aid Form.
You can transfer your donation by online banking or make a payment using credit or debit card – and please complete the Gift Aid Declaration if possible.
Any amount you are able to donate is hugely appreciated. Remember, every £1 is match-funded by the school, and Gift Aid can boost your donation even further.
Make a single gift by completing and returning our Donation and Gift Aid Form.
If you are able to consider giving at a level that will fund half the cost of a Bedales education for one student for one year, Bedales pledges to fund the other half.
In order to offer a bursary place, Bedales must have the confidence that it will be able to fund that child’s entire time at the school, whether they start at Bedales Prep, Dunhurst or Sixth Form. Regular donations therefore play a critical role in helping the John Badley Foundation to forward plan.
Set up a regular donation via standing order by completing and returning the Standing Order Form.
Why not show your support for the John Badley Foundation and represent Bedales’ founding year of 1893 by donating £18.93 per month?
If you donate £18.93 a month (or every quarter, or year) you will be invited to become a member of the 1893 Club. You will be offered an enamel pin badge, invited to a special annual reception at Bedales and other events throughout the school year.
Find out more about the 1893 Club, or become a member by completing and returning the Standing Order Form.
Gifts from overseas
Bedales is registered with the Charities Aid Foundation American Donor Fund, providing a tax effective solution for US donors.
After you have taken care of loved ones, you may wish to consider leaving a gift to the John Badley Foundation in your will. As a charitable legacy, it will be deducted from your estate before the amount of inheritance tax is calculated.
An estate can pay inheritance tax as a reduced rate of 36% on some assets (instead of 40%) if 10% or more of the ‘net value’ of an estate is left to charity. For more information, visit GOV.UK.
All those who choose to advise Bedales of their intentions to include the school in their will are invited to join the John Haden Badley Society which meets annually.

Those who choose to leave a legacy to the John Badley Foundation – or give a major contribution in their lifetime – may specify that this is put into the charity’s permanent endowment fund. This has been established in the hope that one day the fund will grow to the size where it can generate substantial interest and provide sustainable bursary funding for many future generations.
Why not organise your own fundraising event for the John Badley Foundation – perhaps a sponsored challenge, or help at a school event?
Please get in touch with the Bedales Development team at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to set up a fundraising page for an event or initiative to enable online donations from your supporters.
Shop online with nearly 3,000 retailers through easyfundraising.org.uk to receive cash rewards that you can turn into donations for the John Badley Foundation.
If you use Amazon, would you consider making future orders via Amazon Smile and selecting the John Badley Foundation as your chosen charity? This means that every time you buy a product, Amazon will donate 0.5% of the purchase price to the John Badley Foundation at no extra cost to you.
Please note – you must make all your purchases via smile.amazon.co.uk in order for the John Badley Foundation to receive donations.
Supporting another area of the school
In addition to offering financial support through bursaries, the John Badley Foundation exists to support capital improvements on the Bedales estate, student enrichment projects and the sustained work of the Bedales community in helping good causes.
If you would like your donation to support an area of the school other than bursaries, please contact Tanya Darlow, Head of Development (01730 711662, email@example.com) to ensure we can fulfil your wishes.
