Old Bedalian Marika Hackman (2000-10) returned to Bedales in August 2023 to film the video for her new single, No Caffeine.

The video for No Caffeine, which is Marika’s first single for four years and her first new original material since her 2019 album, Any Human Friend, was filmed on Cobbs Field at Bedales Prep.

Co-directed by Marika and Transgressive Records’ Natàlia Pagès Geli and produced by fellow Old Bedalian Tarquin Ramsay (2010-12), the video reflects the spinning, dizzying experience of anxiety, which is the subject of the single. Marika describes No Caffeine as “a list of what to do to avoid having a panic attack and looking at my anxiety as an abusive partner”.

No Caffeine is the second music video Marika has filmed at Bedales, having filmed the video for Cannibal, from her debut mini album That Iron Taste, in the Lupton Hall in 2013. Marika, who has previously described her experience of performing in the Bedales Rock Show as a student as “invaluable”, also brought her Any Human Friend tour to Bedales in September 2019.

Tarquin Ramsay, who is currently Head of Production for Barcelona based production company OL64, commented: “I was delighted to work together with OB Marika Hackman on her music video for No Caffeine. After 10 years as a producer, it all started back in [Bedales Prep’s Head of Drama] Simon Kingsley-Pallant’s filmmaking club. What a treat to finally get to make a video on Bedales soil!”
