Our venues

Bedales Venue Infomation
  • All Bedales venues are open half-an-hour before the advertised event start time.

  • When attending our events we ask that you do not enter any academic building or boarding house unless accompanied by a member of staff and having signed in as a visitor. 

  • Please switch off your mobile phones and recording equipment when seated in the Bedales Theatre and related venues for our shows.

  • Every effort will be made to present the advertised programme. The right is reserved to substitute or cancel events in exceptional circumstances.

Bedales Olivier Theatre
  • Award-winning timber-framed structure, completed in 1996.

  • Variable stage configurations, 250-340 seats.

  • A full programme of school productions and concerts combined with lively touring theatre, the best in modern jazz, exciting contemporary dance, distinguished classical recitals and poetry readings, and folk blues from the UK.

  • Free, onsite parking is available in front of the main Orchard Building (main reception) by taking the first right turn. On foot, follow the road through away from main reception until you see an impressive, timber- framed, pyramidal building; the Olivier Theatre.

  • Wheelchairs and accessible access - please book in advance by contacting hello@bedales.org.uk

  • Safety – please be particularly aware of varying floor levels in the theatre auditorium, resulting from different stage configurations.

Quad
  • A 400-seat concert hall, also used for art exhibitions and the like (raked seating)

  • Free, onsite parking is available in front of the main Orchard Building by taking the first right turn. On foot, go straight through reception in the Orchard Building and follow the red brick path past the Library and Lupton Hall. Once past these go under the archway and through the wooden doors in front of you.

Lupton Hall
  • Bedales’ original school hall.

  • Grade I listed designed by Ernest Gimson and built by Old Bedalian Geoffrey Lupton in 1911.

  • Venue provides solid oak benches and a main aisle floored with large quarry tiles.

  • Mainly used for plays, concerts, school services and singing.

  • Restored by Richard Griffiths Architects in 2017 as a dedicated hall for music and as a lecture hall.

  • Free, onsite parking is available in front of the main Orchard Building by taking the first right turn. On foot, go straight through reception in the Orchard Building and follow the red brick path for the Lupton Hall, at the end of the equally awe-inspiring Arts and Crafts library.

Memorial Library
  • Built in 1921 to commemorate those who died in the First World War.

  • Designed by Ernest Gimson, it is considered to be one of the finest Arts and Crafts buildings in the country and is Grade I listed.

  • Free, onsite parking is available in front of the main Orchard Building by taking the first right turn. Go straight through reception in the Orchard Building and follow the red brick path until you reach the historic library, just before the Lupton Hall.

Assembly Hall
  • The school's main 500+ seat concert hall (raked seating)

  • Opened 2024

  • Large orange building situated next to the Olivier Theatre.

  • Steinway grand piano

  • Free, onsite parking is available in front of the main Orchard Building by taking the first right turn. On foot, follow the road through away from main reception until you see an impressive, timber- framed, pyramidal building: the Olivier Theatre - the new Assembly Hall is the large orange building, just past the theatre.

Old Drama Studio
  • Oldest building on the site, tucked behind the Art and Design building as you come into the campus.

  • Capacity 45.

  • Free, onsite parking is available in front of the main Orchard Building by taking the first right turn. On foot, follow the road back up as if to go out again and you will see a large yellow building to your right (Steephurst). To the left of this building, use the road opposite to follow down a small hill and the Old Drama Studio is at the bottom past the parking.

New Drama Studio
  • Oldest building on the site, tucked behind the Art and Design building as you come into the campus.

  • Capacity 45.

  • Free, onsite parking is available in front of the main Orchard Building by taking the first right turn. On foot, follow the road back up as if to go out again and you will see a large yellow building to your right (Steephurst). To the left of this building, use the road opposite to follow down a small hill and the Old Drama Studio is at the bottom past the parking.

How to find us

Bedales is set in the heart of the South Downs National Park in Steep, near Petersfield, Hampshire. Our campus is easily accessible via the A3 or the A272; exit at the junction signposted services/Petersfield Industrial Estate.
