Community
Bedales fosters an inclusive, forward-thinking education through broadened access, active community integration and education thought leadership. From bursaries and mentoring to collaborative partnerships and lifelong alumni bonds, every part of the school - from students to staff, parents and beyond - works to create a dynamic, caring environment where learning and connection flourish across generations.

Bedales is broadening access by doubling the number of full means-tested bursaries and offering tailored support for families. Our communitarian ethos guides inclusive practices across the curriculum, staffing and admissions. From school-wide mentoring to collaborative staff training, we ensure seamless student transitions and foster a supportive 3–18 journey.
Integration at Bedales is about active participation and meaningful connection. Through mentoring networks, collaborations across the 3-18 years, and shared learning experiences, students and staff deepen relationships and strengthen community bonds. Our initiatives cultivate empathy and a sense of shared purpose, ensuring everyone feels seen, supported and inspired.
Bedales continues to shape education through national advocacy, global partnerships and thought leadership. We contribute to UK Parliament Select Committees and engage in dialogue that influences education reform. By partnering with like-minded schools and fostering enriching cross-cultural experiences, we promote inclusive change both locally and globally.
Students here come with all sorts of passions - art, science, music, philosophy, sport, ecology - and they’re encouraged to be themselves. As they move from Pre-prep through Prep to Senior, they’re nurtured in a warm, inclusive setting, with bursaries supporting broader access. It’s not just about academic success (though many go on to top universities and creative institutions), it’s about building friendships that last a lifetime and enjoying a school experience full of discovery, creativity and mutual respect - first names included.

Building meaningful connections that enrich our community and extend educational opportunities
We believe in the power of partnership to widen opportunities for our students and staff whilst delivering our charitable purpose of advancing education. Our diverse range of educational, charity, bursary, local community and international partnerships demonstrates our commitment to being a moral and ethical institution that serves the wider community. From award-winning collaborations with local state schools to international exchanges and refugee support programmes, these relationships enrich our students’ understanding of the world while making our expertise and facilities available to benefit others.
Each year, Bedales hosts special community days - known as Badley Days, named after the school’s founder - where students and staff from across the school come together for a shared purpose. Rooted in the school’s motto ‘work of each for weal of all’, these days include collaborative projects that enhance the school environment and benefit the wider community, fundraising for school and partner charities, and creative off-timetable experiences. They celebrate unity, contribution and the spirit of discovery that underpins life at Bedales.
