1984 An Immersive Rebellion for the Surveillance Age

War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength. April, 29th 1984. Comrade Winston Smith thinks a thought, starts a diary and falls in love. But the Thought Police are always listening. Big Brother is always watching. Step inside the world of a dystopian London, not through a screen, but through your own uneasy footsteps. This visceral, promenade adaptation of Orwell’s 1984 drags the audience into the belly of a regime where language is weaponised, truth is a memory, and obedience is survival.

In a society eerily close to our own, Orwell’s masterpiece introduces the concepts of newspeak, doublethink and the infamous Room 101. Today we live in a world where we are always being watched, where language is distorted and major internet corporations are ruling over us. So many things that Orwell predicted have come to pass, what he could never have guessed is that our privacy has not been taken away, we have given it up willingly.

This bold, re-imagined adaptation blends haunting choral work, music and Orwell’s original text to create a chillingly intimate experience. Expect noise, beauty, terror, and something you can’t quite forget. Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past.
