Expressing creativity through Music
Music is central to life at Bedales. Children sing, compose and perform with enthusiasm - guided by experienced staff who inspire expression and imagination. Lessons include live music experiences, ensemble work and personal tuition by visiting specialists. From choirs to instrumental performances, children discover the joy of music while developing their ear, confidence and collaboration. The school’s strong musical heritage, including connections with Bedales Prep and Senior and visiting musicians, provides rich cultural inspiration. Music also weaves through other subjects like art, dance and languages, encouraging children to explore and define their creative potential.
Building cultural curiosity
French and Spanish are taught as living, exciting languages at Bedales Pre-prep. Our curriculum inspires a love of words and sounds, engaging children through games, songs and visual media. Students practise listening carefully and speaking confidently with authentic accents, building vocabulary through memorable, evolving units. By Year 3, children gain strong recognition of words and phrases, laying the foundations for further study. Learning languages opens windows to different cultures and ways of thinking - enriching creativity, empathy and expression. At Bedales, children see languages not as subjects, but as gateways to understanding and appreciation.
Sport & Physical Education
Physical Education at the Pre-prep is energetic, inclusive and fun. Children engage in weekly PE, games and swimming lessons, taught by specialist staff. They build fundamental movement skills through gymnastics, dance, ball games, athletics and outdoor pursuits. Our extensive facilities - including an orchard, courts, astro pitch and indoor pool - offer endless possibilities. We value competition for its power to teach resilience, teamwork and sportsmanship. From inter-school matches to informal challenges, children learn to celebrate effort and achievement. Whether exploring orienteering in nature or sprinting on the track, students gain confidence, coordination and joy in movement.
Enrichment through Sports Clubs
Extra-curricular sports clubs expand children’s physical experience. Led by expert coaches, activities include netball, football, tennis, gymnastics, athletics and karate. These sessions enhance skills, build fitness and deepen students’ love for sport. Participation fosters discipline, focus and goal-setting - key qualities in and beyond school life. As children try new activities and refine techniques, they also learn the value of perseverance and teamwork. Sports clubs celebrate individual potential and provide a supportive space for everyone to thrive. Through movement, students strengthen not just their bodies, but their belief in themselves.
