Embracing Day life at Bedales

At both Prep and Senior schools, day students are equal participants in every part of school life. Our inclusive ethos ensures friendships, pastoral care and opportunities flow across day and boarding students. The Day Common Room serves as a vibrant hub for Senior day students - a relaxed space to connect, collaborate or unwind between activities which is also a regular hangout for boarders. The integration of day and boarding students at Bedales Prep and Senior is both seamless and actively celebrated, with our systems and spaces designed to enrich the students’ experiences.

I have learnt that I can earn the respect of others and be confident in myself"

Freedom, Flexibility and Enrichment

Bedales gives day students room to discover and grow. With full access to mealtimes and after-school clubs and activities, and encouragement to stay for evening events, their days are full and varied. Wednesday afternoons, free from traditional timetables, allow Prep and Senior students to pursue passions - whether playing sport, studying, rehearsing, designing in the workshops, exploring nature or visiting Petersfield with friends. Students craft routines that suit their needs while remaining rooted in a lively, inclusive school community.

A unique place where interesting people do interesting things and creativity and academia exist in perfect harmony."

Freedom, Flexibility and Enrichment
Bedales Prep

Day students at Bedales Prep arrive to cheerful mornings and depart after full days of creative and adventurous learning and pastoral warmth. Regular participation in performances, sports and outdoor exploration builds confidence and community. Friendships flourish through shared experiences such as in nature, workshops and assemblies. Flexible boarding options are available to Prep students who need occasional boarding, and is an ideal introduction to life as a boarder. The structure for day students supports children emotionally and academically while giving them freedom to grow - and families stay involved through open communication and events. It’s a joyful blend of school immersion and home comfort.

Empowering and inspiring students
Bedales Senior

Senior day students thrive in a setting that values student voice, independence and contribution. Students can become active members of the Day House Council, helping to shape school initiatives. With the option to stay for dinner, clubs or evening gatherings, their days are flexible yet full. Wednesdays open a door to creative freedom: time to dive into music, sports or personal study, outside the usual curriculum. Students can also take the opportunity to visit Petersfield with friends. As they move up through the Senior School, many day students choose to switch to boarding to immerse themselves even more fully into the school community.

Senior Day House Council & Staff

The Day House Council gives Day students the opportunity to get their views heard and make suggestions. The Day Council meets once a week, with several representatives from each year group, to discuss matters in order to improve the day-to-day experience for Day students.

The Day Houseparents provide pastoral support and guidance for Day students in their care. They work closely with each other, as well as students and their families, school colleagues and other agencies to support students and oversee the DCR.
