Students returning to Bedales for the Summer term were greeted by a new servery and salad bar in the Dining Hall.

Work on the new facilities began on 25 March while students were heading home at the end of the Spring term, as the catering team got to work stripping out the kitchen and servery area ready for the refurbishment to start the following morning.

The contractor working on the project spent the three-week Easter break renovating the space, with an average of 15 people on site each day.

During the process the team discovered some hidden features, including a door that leads into the Quad and three windows, one of which is thought to be part of the entrance to Bedales founder John Badley’s former residence.

After the busy three weeks, renovations were completed on Good Friday, ready for the start of the Summer term.

Head of Catering Matt Potts said: “The existing servery and salad bar had served its purpose for many years, but the time had come to renovate the facilities and ease the flow for hungry students during busy lunchtimes. It is a wonderful transformation – a huge thank you to all involved in this project.”
