Inclusively creating and performing in celebration of who we are

We are a team of musicians who are skilled at creating opportunities in which beginners and experts alike can enter, share, take delight in and perform to their best ability. We have regular performing opportunities including termly whole school concerts and we work very closely with the drama department.

Our class lessons are lively, explore diversity and combine the theoretical with practical music making. Our one to one music lessons are hugely popular and we nurture our young musicians from a young age. You can’t visit Dunhurst without hearing Music echoing through the corridors. Bedales celebration and encouragement of the Musical arts is a legacy we enjoy every day.

Listening, exploring, practising, performing

  • We explore analysis and musical literacy in class lessons, always searching for the hidden meaning behind compositions. We borrow structures, chords and scales from the masters and use these to inspire notation and theory.
  • Composition and Improvisation are powerful tools for expression, we use live instruments and Garage Band software.
  • To encourage a healthy practice schedule is vital if progress is to be maintained. This should be regular and focused, with an eye on a performance or exam.
  • Live music making in front of an audience lies at the heart of the department. The thrill of being in the moment and the chance to celebrate skill and passion is ever important.
