Thirty-one members of the Bedales School community braved the rain, mud and hills to participate in the Queen Elizabeth Country Park Trail Run on 26 March, covering 21, 15 or 9 kms of off-road trail running.

The team, comprising students, staff, parents, alumni and some dogs, came together to raise funds for the John Badley Foundation Emergency Refugee Fund which is currently supporting eight Ukrainian students at Bedales and Bedales Prep, Dunhurst.

There were some impressive individual performances in the run with 13-year old Bedales Prep pupil George Carter (Year 8) winning the 9 km adult race against 100 other runners. Sixth formers Issy Robinson and Nate Shuster came first in their respective under 20 categories in the half marathon (21 km).

Will Goldsmith, Head of Bedales commented:

“Congratulations to all the runners who showed great resilience on the day and should be very proud of their achievements. Through our Emergency Refugee Fund, we are very pleased to be able to support displaced young people with the benefit of a Bedales education. Thank you to all the donors who have made this important work possible by supporting our appeal.”

The JBF works closely with the Rural Refugee Network and supports young people displaced from their home countries due to war. At the time of writing the John Badley Joggers appeal has raised £8,283. Further donations will enable support for more young people in similar situations; donations can be made here.
